Our community is fortunate to have so many generous and caring residents who help make the College Dream a Reality for 2-3 graduating high school seniors. Each year a request for funds is mailed to homeowners; all donations – large and small – are valued and key in providing scholarship offerings.

The SunLand Scholarship Committee collects donations, prepares/posts scholarship applications, collects/reviews completed documents and selects a small number of students for personal interviews.

Applicant Eligibility:

  • reside within Sequim School District boundaries
  • be a Sequim High School senior or home-schooled senior
  • be accepted in a four-year, two-year or vocational education program

Selection Criteria are evenly weighted and include:

  • Academic Excellence (Student must document a minimum cumulative 3.7 GPA to apply.)
  • Activities
  • Employment/Savings
  • Financial Need
  • Presentation

Awards are presented at the Sequim High School annual Awards Night; funds are sent directly to financial aid offices at recipients’ post-secondary institutions. In recent years, 2-3 awards of $4,000.00/student have been presented.

We hope you will join your neighbors and donate to this program – helping to make dreams come true!

2019 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

2019 Sequim High School scholarship recipients maintained 3.75+ GPA, completed AP classes, and are Honor Society members. They have contributed to their school and community through athletics, academics, and community service. Both young women are dedicated to the fields of science and math.

  • Elizabeth Marie Sweet has been admitted directly into the biochemistry program at University of Washington, a rigorous academic environment filled with research opportunities, driven peers, and experienced mentors. Elizabeth has always held a deep appreciation and fascination with science. She received a microscope and chemistry set for her tenth birthday; she is intrigued by the current status of biotechnology and space exploration. She is curious about the intricate networking of the brain at the biochemical level. Elizabeth interned with the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe, sampling and analyzing phytoplankton to monitor biotoxins that affect shellfish.
  • Kaitlyn Viada attends Peninsula College where she plans on receiving her Associate Degree in either Computer Science or Engineering. After much research, Kaitlyn has identified electrical engineering and its application to the renewable energy and agricultural fields as her major direction. To control her college expenses, her game plan is first to earn an Associate Degree, then complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at a four-year university, and ultimately pursue a PhD in the sciences. Kaitlyn was the happy smiling lifeguard at the Sequim YMCA this past year.
